Pre-School Volunteers Jeffreys Bay
This is one of our
main areas of attention in this project as the upliftment of this
community starts with the young ones.
You will be
collected at the airport in Port Elizabeth and transferred to
Jeffreys Bay where you will be staying at the beach house.
More info on the Beach House
Work day will be
from Monday to Friday and on weekends will be free to enjoy
Jeffreys Bay or weekends can be used to explore the local area.
This area offers a wealth of
activities like untouched hiking trails, surf school, sand boarding,
horse riding on unspoiled beaches and much more.
Why pre-school?
(crèche)
This is one of our main areas of
attention in this project as the upliftment of this community starts
with the young ones. Its very satisfying spending time with the
children watching them play and learn.
What is included in the cost?
Includes all
Accommodation on a sharing basis (Breakfast and Dinner, we cater for
vegetarians) and Transfers to and from the Project, including
transfer to and from Port Elizabeth Airport at the beginning and end
of your project.
What you will be doing?
You will be taken to your project where you will
be working with the children. The days begin with
opening the crèche and getting everything ready for the kids that
you are going to work with. The days are normal
days, which means that you have to keep a close eye on the children
en take care of them during the day. The days end at 16h00 en after
that you have to close.
The buildings are often in a bad state and it
will also be your task to improve these buildings, real volunteer
work. Maybe do some painting or create special sponsor evenings in
the local community to get locals to help. Working with the children
will be appreciated by the children as well as by the community.
Working hours?
Work days will be from Monday to Friday and on weekends will be free
to enjoy Jeffreys Bay or weekends can be used to explore the local
area.

Where you will be staying?
You will be collected at the airport in Port

at the Beach House, a hostel that offers 4 bed dorms or upgrading
to en-suite double rooms (Optional). The lodge is close to the pre-schools
and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. The bar will be open
every night to make sure that you have a good time. The community is
located close to Jeffreys Bay (25km) along the most breathtaking
coastline with miles and miles of unspoiled beaches. The area offers

boarding, horse riding and much more.

Single Room/ Double
Room: Enquire about upgrading
Here you stay alone or share with a friend.
Sharing Double:
Enquire about upgrading
In this option you book a bed in a large en-suite room. You
might share a room with someone from a completely different culture
which adds to the whole learning experience.
These rooms have there own
private kitchen and barbeque area. The rooms have sea views and a
balcony/veranda with deck chairs to soak up those golden rays.
Dormitory:
Included in this Project
This consists of 4 bed dorms where bathrooms are communal. There is
also a large communal kitchen. This is for the young at heart who
enjoy the adventure of backpacking.
Safety
Most
pre-schools in South Africa are safe. The building is often
surrounded by a boundary fence that keeps the children from going out and
keeps others from coming in. The crèche is situated in a
township, you don’t have to worry about crime, because the
one place that you are safe is in a pre-school. But always keep your
attention to the surroundings and the locals.
What happens to the fees you pay?
The fees covers your accommodation,
transport and meals. All Africa Volunteers are constantly upgrading
schools and other facilities in the townships that your fees help to
purchase the materials. See
Project Updates to see
what we use the fees for.
Age and qualifications?
The min age to join a project is 18
unless part of a supervised school group. There are no required
qualifications but often your specific skills can be a huge benefit
to these projects.
